Life is made up of paths—ways by which we travel on this incredible journey. Along the way paths diverge, and intersect. How do you choose the paths on which you travel?
Do you choose a path based on the one most chosen by others?
Are you intrigued by the path’s appearance?
Do you inquire as to the direction the path is leading?
Are you influenced by the path selected by your friends or peers?
Is your choice based on the path’s destination?
Are you swayed by the path’s ease of travel or amenities?
Although the choice is yours to make, the Lord Jesus cares very much about each path that you take.
He wants us to follow His will (Psalm 119:105) and will gladly teach us to recognize His best path for us (Psalm 32:8).
In addition, God will teach us which paths to avoid. Proverbs 1:10, 15-16, tells us, My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them. . . do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; for their feet rush into evil.
Since the world opposes God and His Word, His paths will be in clear contrast to those of the world.
Proverbs 4:18-19 says, The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. Do you recognize the diversity of available paths for your life?
Make no mistake: The path you take determines your destination. Many paths don’t reveal the destination until it’s too late. Are you certain of the path you are taking? Some paths are enticing, but lead to destruction; while godly paths always lead to righteousness. Sadly, those who try to keep one foot on two different paths will experience a divided heart and double mindedness.
At any moment, regardless of what path you are currently traveling, you can choose to seek and follow Jesus. Will you do so?
